Installation

This section assumes that you are familiar with the basics of IP networking.

AngleID readers are designed to run in high-reliability environments without needing any external software support. Therefore, each reader must have:

  • A static IP configuration for your network.
  • The AngleID software stored in its on-board flash memory.

You can set these up by using the AngleID Config Tool.

Before you begin, ensure that:

  • The DHCP request sent by your reader is not being captured by other programs, as described in Essential Checks Before Setup.
  • You have an IP address available for your network. If you do not have an IP address, contact your IT Administrator.

During configuration, you are required to supply the following information for each reader:

  • An IPv4 IP address.
  • A subnet mask.
  • A default gateway, which can be set to the IP address of the configuration tool if you do not have a gateway on your network.

After you supply this information, the reader is configured automatically.

To install your reader:

  1. Open the AngleID Config Tool. In the Sensors tab, select the reader that you want to install.

  2. Type the IP address and Gateway for the reader, and then click Store network configuration. The reader obtains its IP address and configuration. It also upgrades its firmware (if necessary) and stores the AngleID software.

The IP address and other configuration data are stored in AngleID.udata and it is important you do not lose this file. If you want to install readers using other PCs, you must make AngleID.udata available to them, for example by copying the file to the other computer or by placing it on a shared drive. (You can still find a reader's IP address if you cannot access AngleID.udata. See How do I find an IP address for an AngleID reader if I have forgotten what it was?.)

Note: The reader can take a while to store the firmware and software. If the reader accidentally loses power during this process, the flashing process uses an atomic switchover. The reader is therefore not affected.

After each firmware upgrade, software storage and IP address storage steps, the reader reboots to ensure that the state is cleared down. The whole process can take several minutes, especially if the firmware is upgraded.
